Funky yard art...most people seem to have at least one item of decoration in their yards that could be considered "art", or "kitsch", or just plain junk...well here we have examples of all three...first, I'll call this menagerie "kitsch"-simply because there are 4 statues all together in the same spot, and I think they look pretty funny...
...but this guy by himself, I think he's cool...and more than a little scary!

Then we have art...like this "Lochness monster" made from old farm machinery...
...and this flower bouqet, also crafted from various metal parts (sorry it's blurry)...very creative, don't you think?I'd also like to call this art-I made it last year at a local gardener's conference-very fun!

But this here planter is definately junk...but hey, these tomato plants don't mind!

Too funny.

I was hoping that the photo caption would read FAKE TOTEM POLE.

That said, I'd actually BUY the Loch Ness moster thing. Very creative.

The flower display makes me want to check to ensure that my Tetnus shot is up to date. Sharp AND rusty. Hmmmnn.

Great post as usual.

I like the Loch Ness Monster!!! I also cracked up at the bear--beats the heck out of all of the fake deer we have around here. *grin*

I'm impressed at your creation... makes me want to go out and learn how to do some of that stuff!

Hank-I misspelled totem on purpose-my text box put the m below the word, and it drove me nuts! I bet that fella has lots of folks stop and try to buy "nessie"...just goes to show what you can do with scrap metal and a welder! I'd like to see them plant a faux "lake" of ajuga beneath him, with maybe a slim-leaf purple iris for a "cattail" effect (except when it's blooming)...maybe I'll photoshop the plants in and stick a pic in their mailbox (then he wouldn't have to move it to mow).

Kim-you would absolutely enjoy working with copper! Once you get used to it, you just want to make more stuff! It was really easy, too.

That cattail is pretty cool too!

Thank you! Really easy to make, and I felt cool and "DIY"!

You blogged that gardener's conference and I remember reading it. Was that a year ago? Yikes!

I always like the rusty recycled metal sculptures, and did someone say totem pole? Love them. My dad likes to carve wood. well, he whittles. I'd like to find a big block of wood for him to work on.

And then I'd like him to give me the finished product. :)

Chuck-actually I blogged this year's conf. only a couple months ago, but this year's project was a trellis, and the cattail was last year's....time DOES fly, though!
I bet your dad would be happy to make you something...one of my old drinking buddies started using his creativity for more than animated conversation, and he does amazing wood sculptures. I saw a very cool butterfly in flight at his place the other day, I absolutely need to stop and get pics to blog it! (Maybe even buy something!) I dig the rusty metal sculptures, too....I have a large wire mosquito that amuses me to no end, and I got it locally for less than $20! That's the nice thing about rural areas/small towns-stuff like that is mostly cheaper, cuz' "sensible country folk" just won't pay exorbtant prices!
