Bloom tour...I was still feeling puny all weekend, mostly wandering around the yard and moving the sprinkler here and there (very dry here!). But many things are blooming, including these windflowers... ...and this pink hyacinth. I've never had very good luck with these, and this is the fullest bloom I've ever had. The smell is just intoxicating...
....blossom on my 'nanking' cherry bush. I have three of these, and deer eat them down to puny, foot tall little bush-lets, but they're blooming nonetheless...
...lungwort, or 'boys and girls' as my mom calls it, because of the pink and blue blooms present at the same time. I have a lot of powdery mildew problems with these, but not in this dry weather!
And here we have an asparagus spear popping up...yum! I hope to harvest at least a single serving later this week, and way more after that!!

Very pretty blooms! Asparagus!! Is it hard to grow? That must be wonderful, picking your own...so fresh! When we lived in So. Calif years ago, there were huge fields of asparagus behind our home. If I had more room (sigh), I'd love to try some...very long lived, yes?

Asparagus is a long-term investment. How long ago did you get this started?

Of all the garden blogs I visit, yours is giving me the most excitement. You had to endure so much winter compared to the rest of us! But you managed to be all garden-y anyway with all your cool projects. It's fun to see it all unfold outside now.

GG-not sure how long asparagus lives, but I hope a long time. My patch is only @ 4'x4'...but I'm the only one to feed, also.

Chuck-my asparagus was planted 2 years ago, and it did produce the first year, but I left it go to ferns. (No seeds; they're all boys). Last year I harvested 2 generous servings, and I'm hoping for even more this year. I think the ferns look cool, and it really doesn't take up that much room. Thanks for the complement @ the blog, too...I enjoy the big transformation from winter also, but your blog cheers me up year-round, especially when I have snow!
