I'm back....along with more snow! Finally feeling alive after almost a week and a half of mailaise, and our wintry weather never slowed down like I did... .....looks like an ice cream cone, eh? This is a sumac along my road, growing wild as they are inclined to do up here.

Funny how snow just stacks up on even the smallest surfaces...
...and piles on branches like crazy! I think these doves had to "shovel their perch" first...
....lucky there's a roof on this feeder!

Even the tiniest twigs get covered when there's no wind...
....so pretty! My previously revealed angel is going undercover again...

...along with everything else around my house.

I like the snow cover though, it not only protects the plants while they sleep off the winter...
....I think it adds a nice clean frosting to an otherwise brown and dull landscape.

Hooray for improving health and plenty of snow! Now back to my spring plans....

Hi Lisa,

It's good to see you back. I haven't seen a post from you for awhile now. Your snow pictures are lovely - it looks serene there, unlike here, where it is blizzarding yet again!

Thank you, Kate! It's great to BE back, and I know I can't totally relate to the weather you have, but these past couple weeks-almost! More snow, and temps of
-12 with -35 wind chill...however our extremes are sporadic where yours seem sustained for much longer. Ah well, the other three seasons make up for it, IMO.

So glad your feeling better, Lisa. I've missed you and your perky posts.

We had a blizzard down in the Ozarks, too. There must be 3/4" of snow in the deeper drifts.

Marvin-Thank you for the kind sentiment! I'm glad to be up and around...your weather sounds just frightening! Did it shut the area down completely or what? ;-)

I know the feeling - the weather has put me in a funk as well. At least you have beautiful snow to look at! It is just cold, cloudy and wet here. I'm sure the plants appreciate that blanket when it is so cold.

Phillip-Oh yea, despite being cold, snow is a terrific insulator! I used to hate the winters in Indiana...so brown. But the roads are safer to drive on, so there's always a trade-off. Hope you give your funk the slip real soon!

Beautiful snow scenes, we have had our share here, too. But I hope to post some photos of bare ground soon, with PLANTS poking out. :-)

Lisa,
Toronto was hit by a major snowstorm during the last 24 hours.
My garden looks like yours. But it is getting better..Tomorrow we'll have rain and slip and slide down the road.
Have a wonderful weekend..
Gisela

Connie-I'm excited for spring too, but I must say I enjoy the snow an awful lot. I used to ski a lot in high school...we had a ski club that went by bus once a week all winter. It was a blast.

Gisela-Wow...rain on top of a bunch of snow? Sorry to hear that! Drive safe...I know how much fun winter driving is. (Actually I do enjoy it a bit...my dad took me to the Kmart parking lot to do doughnuts and learn to steer properly.) It was great fun, and I really enjoyed The Dukes of Hazzard for that very reason. :) Have a great weekend yourself!

I'm glad you're back...the blog-o-sphere isn't the same when you're not posting.

I think it's remarkable too, about the snow piling up on the smallest surfaces. Must have something to do with being sticky. Sticky to itself that is, via hydrogen bonds. :)

Lisa, I thought you were awdful quiet, now I know why! Glad you're back and feeling much better! Your garden look so pretty covered with a layer of pure white snow. I'm envious!

BTW your new header looks great! Have you seen mine? ;-)

Lisa, glad you're better and back. Also, thanks for reminding me how lovely snow is! I used to teach ice skating at the rink in Central Park in NYC and then lived in Vermont for a while, but now I'm old and arthritic enough that I'm glad not to have to deal with it! But it is beautiful... We get hard frosts here, but the last time it snowed enough to measure was in 1989 -- about 6 inches on Christmas Eve. It was magical... Something about snow on Spanish moss... Glad you're back!

woah, that's a whole lotta snow! I used to envy your garden when I saw how green everything was, but I have a trepidation of that fluffy white stuff that freezes your toes!

Chuck-Well, I thought I'd posted a comment the other day, but oh well...thank you, it's great to BE back! (Work has been too busy for me to be online much so far, though.) "Sticky hydrogen" bondage...awesome!

Brad-Oh yea, I learned all about huskies and yellow snow from Frank Zappa many years ago, as well as several other topics we won't discuss here ;-)

Yolanda-Thank you! Quiet is most certainly strange for me ;-)! I like your header BTW, as well as the continued feline presence. My son's cats are currently houseguests of mine, and I must say it's going well. May have to consider getting my own soon...we'll see.

Marion-Thank you! I'd miss snow too much to move south, but I bet a freak storm like that would be really cool to see (not drive in, though...especially when local road crews aren't up for it).

Funtime-There's always a tradeoff, huh?

Y'know, gardener that I am, the winter is really making me happy this year....so I can wait!

Lucky you to have consistent snow cover. This has been the wimpiest winter ever in Buff. I agree, if it's going to be crappy out, there may as well be snow.

lisa said...

EAL-I'm with you on that one! My plants are insulated really well, and the moisture that the melting snow will yield is gonna be very helpful this spring. In fact, Sunday we got fully 13" more snow on top of all this! Yay!
