Something Different

While bird watching the other day, I noticed an unusual looking Pine Siskin at my feeder. See the white spot on his head?

It doesn't look like the other siskins in the bird book....

....it has a piebald feature.

Definately makes this bird stand out in a crowd...

....frankly I find it to be very "fashion forward"! :)

There's one is every crowd! Good eye, Lisa. :)

Thanks! At first I thought it was some rare bird I'd never seen before :)

I don't think I've seen a pine siskin IRL, but now I know what to look for (minus the white cap!).

They're adorable little birds, I get fairly large flocks in the winter. If the flock gets startled and flies to a tree, they kind of "rain" back down to the feeders in the way they drop and fly out of the tree...it's neat to watch.

I reallly need to prioritize the bird learnin'.

Why aren't these finches?

"Why aren't these finches?"...because they're Siskins, silly! ;-) They sure look finch-y to me too, though.

So if you can identify them, they need to be named, right? Have you named this little guy?

How about "snowy top Sally siskin"?
