My recent diversions...from blogging (as well as normal life), are courtesy of my son and these two felines, Gizmo (in black), and Bentley (in white). See my new "living/bedroom"? Gizmo likes the view of the bird feeders...

...both of them! I'm trying to accomodate these two with their own "perches" in hopes of discouraging climbing in areas I don't want them...I know...cat people are all laughing at my foolish self-delusions.....anyway....
...Bentley enjoys lounging on the couch more than watching birds...
....but the change in living situation has them both wondering (and conspiring)...
...."Who, us?"
When my boy found a new place, Bentley helps with the packing...
...but no cats are allowed, so the furniture assembly is done without any feline assistence.
Still a work in progress....
.....better now!Fairly cozy for a "bachelor pad"......even with the tarantula posters. However, one of the real tarantulas is not happy about the situation!
This lovely lass is a Brazillian White Knee Tarantula, and she doesn't appreciate all this activity! This is only the second time my son has seen her defensive posture, she usually just sends up a cloud of "urticating hairs" from her abdomen and runs away. Please do click the image to enlarge...see the two fuzzy bumps in the front? Behind those are her fangs, and according to Wikipedia ..."due to their large size the puncture damage can be extensive." ...um....time to put the lid back on! Ah well, now that the boy is settled, and I can get back to life as usual...plus two felines, that is!

The bachelor pad is looking good, and the tarantula is, too, but I'm glad it was just a photo.

Lisa, I can't imagine you having "life as usual" unless you have a brain and/or personality transplant first....please don't be usual!! You're much too interesting just as you are!

lol, your two feline guests are lovely, and must be quite an entertainment. Regarding your son's other pets, i'm not that enthusiastic... grin

Annie-Thank you! I'm glad my strange comes across as interesting, and not offensive!

Verobirdie-Thank you, the cats are a lot less aggravation than I thought they'd be...mostly due to "super-clumping" and odorless kitty litter! ;-) Plus I've been able to keep them from destroying my houseplants, and I was really worried about that. (Gizmo has a "record" :)

Gardenjoy4me-Oh yea, Gizmo is an established tarantula serial killer. I'm sure the spiders don't miss HIM one bit!

My brother keeps a trantula. They scare me. My monkeys will not see this post. It would cause begging and pleading. The kittys are cute.

Wow, she's beautiful. Those two fuzzy bumps, though... they always remind me of those funny long mustaches that people wore in Teddy Roosevelt's day. lol.

Aunt debbie/kurt's mom-I agree with you on that one, I never would have let my son keep these spiders when he was young. They're just too dangerous, since you can't know how sensitive your child is to the venom until they're bitten. But I really enjoy them now, and I'll get a couple of my own eventually. Since I have no intention of handling them, I'd like a couple pretty blue ones, since the prettiest tarantulas are usually the meanest.

Kim-Heh, I bet some of those puffy-moustached dudes had "fangs" of their own behind the fuzz!

Looks like you have a cozy place to help wile away the snowy days--and some cozy companions. It's nice to see Gizmo again. (Erm...have we met Bentley before?)

I want to see close-ups of the tarantula art.

How much do fancy tarantulas cost, and where on earth does one get them? Are they legal?

Thank you, Chuck...I really like my little house, though it needs some renovation to be sure. Bentley has made a couple appearances, most recently when my boy's former dog, Lady, made her exit. I enjoy having them around, and we have all been adjusting nicely. The kitties are definately trainable, admittedly with the help of a super-soaker water gun to enforce the off-limits kitchen countertops. I may invest in a scat mat if it seems necessary in the future...we'll see. As for the spiders...great questions! Let me quiz my boy and get back to you...either here or in an entirely new post.

best of luck with your project great when it is completed and you can just sit there and appreciate the pleasure of doing nothing more than basking in the inner warmth

Thank you! My boy is certainly worth it, and you know what they say-"Charity begins at home".

Lisa, don't waste your money on a Scat Mat. I had a cat who persisted in clawing one particular chair. Nothing else, just that chair. I got a Scat Mat and that animal sat on it and clawed the chair. I'm generally against it, but I took said beast to the vet for de-clawing (he did fine, and was jumping up and down on the furniture the next day), and had the chair re-upholstered. It just happened that the chair returned just as kitty was going off to be de-clawed. I watched him look at the new upholstery with "that look" that said "I'll be dealing with you later!"

I'll add my vote to Chuck B's and ask for a close-up on the tarantula art. They're beautiful and fascinating, just like snakes, but I don't think I'd want to share house space with them!

My 2 cats say "Hi" to yours, and we all hope that the new space surpasses all hopes.

Marion-Thank you for the head's up on the scat mat! I had a feeling that persistent felines will do as they want, regardless. These two are already de-clawed, I just hate animals on my food prep surfaces. Ah well, excuse to clean more often, right? ;-) My cats say "hello" back, and I will do a tarantula post ASAP!
