NIMG afterthought...as the growing season fades into the "off-season", I had an afterthought regarding the "Not in My Garden" thread that Kim started back in September. My post was a little incomplete, because I forgot to mention one important NIMG for me-vegetable gardens. Up here, it's a challenge to raise vegetables, mostly because of these beasts.... .....and these..........these guys aren't any fun to deal with, either..........even these cute little buggers like to steal veggies, especially when they're small, like cherry tomatoes and tiny squash. I'm totally overrun by critters like this, and to be fair, they were here first! So to compensate for hungry animals, people up here must resort to this: a completely enclosed garden! Now this isn't necessarily all bad...I mean, look how cute this is with the "windows" and doors... ....but most of them look more like a stockade or prison yard, like this one. And while I have no aversion to fences, I just don't want to use up that much of my .6 acre for a setup like this, and to garden without it would be futile.
So that's my final "Not in My Garden" contribution-vegetables....love to eat em', just can't grow em'!

Ooh, I love that fence with the windows! I need something like that. Is that in your neighborhood? Or your yard?

The fence is about 6 miles away from my place. I think it's really cute, I just don't have enough space.

I'm sorry you can't have a veggie garden. Maybe you can grow some inside where the beasts can't get to them.

I manage some meager sucess here and there in pots, but not enough to can or make salsa. Luckily there are several local "truck farms" to buy worthwhile produce from...though I'm not sure about pesticide usage or disclosure thereof. My odds are likely decent I'd say.

I have the rabbits to deal with, but they seem to leave the veggies alone. The chipmunks, well the Jack Russell kills them all the time and I'm soooo glad we done have porcupines! Skunks are bad enough, thank you.

I feel your pain, Steven...I have smelled skunk in my yard, but no personal encounters or photographic evidence (yet). Possums too...I usually grab the .22 and send them "toward the light" before bothering with a picture. And believe me, your dog(s) are glad for no porkies...I mean, ouch!

That could be useful here, Lisa, but it looks bigger than our back yard! Does it have a ceiling, too? We'd need that for the squirrels and mockingbirds.

If you add the cost of the stockade to the cost of water and seeds you'd have some pretty expensive vegetables.

Heh...I know what you're saying Annie, I'd need a ceiling as well. I can understand the stubborn logic behind putting one of these up, but I'll just buy my veggies. As you pointed out, likely cheaper that way.

Man... now I need a fence with windows. :)

Kim-I thought you put up the fence for a better view...I don't think windows would help that! I bet Coco would appreciate one of these though! ;-)

Oh Lisa - that link needs a warning for someone drinking coffee sputter, sputter...

Heh...is that just the funniest darn thing, or what?!

Wow, what a lot of competition for food. No wonder you don't do veggies, it would be an absolute nightmare to grow them. I don't care for Colditz gardening either but the one with all the windows and doors does look charming.

Yolanda-I bet if I had outdoor cats then the critters may stay away better...just too many predators for the cats to be safe!

EWWWW! Can you imagine having to clean the dog drool off of the inside of that thing?!!! LOL.

You can all laugh, but I thought about building her a little window in the fence. :)

Kim that's funny! I never thought of how gooey something like this could get. I think it's a nice gesture to give Coco a window...it would probably help her feel less "obsessively curious" to see what's on the other side, especially when she can hear something going on. Plus if it's low enough for her, then people can't really see through it unless they're on all fours, which would be obvious and weird.
