Chillax 101

Has someone (likely well under the age of 20) told you recently to "Chillax", and you wondered what they were talking about? Or maybe you're pretty sure that you understand the meaning, but you wonder "Why are young people still making up words? Does this mean that "groovy", "boss" or "bitchin' " might return?" Allow my friend Bentley.......and his pal Gizmo, explain and demonstrate the essence of "Chillax". Yes, "chillax" is the combination of the words "chill" and "relax". And as you can see, these two are certainly built for comfort and relaxation. But it's not that simple: true chillax requires real dedication, and the proper attitude.........and just for the record, this is not chillax..........but this is more like it!Bentleys' particular affinity for chillax lies in his ability to use anything for a pillow...
....including the food bowls...

....me.....

.....my fancy "kleenex".........anything (wish he'd learn to use that appliance!).......my mail, atop my purse.......cardboard, anywhere, is a favorite........again, atop my tote bag from work.......anyplace his chin can rest, Bentley can chillax. As for Gizmo, either the right position or location can help him chillax....
....and reee-lax....
....to the point of snoring!

Pretty much any location inspires his process.........from the logical....

....to the opportunistic.

With Bentley, chillax is about flexibility-not just with pillows, but body positioning....
.....from the usual kitty-is-napping pose....
....to what my son calls "Praise Jesus" kitty.... .....and this "I'm ready for my closeup"....

...and even the "lion sleeping in a tree" position.

Chillax isn't just a sleeping attitude, but a way to spend time, relaxing and reflecting....

...even lying in wait for a curious playmate to discover your location...

...or not.

Chillax is more than a new buzz word....
.....even more than an attitude........it's a lesson we can all learn from our kittycat friends. And even though dozing in front of the TV can help you relax....

.....even get you in the "zone".......true "chillax" is best enjoyed when you snuggle up next to a friend.......wherever you can.......and just enjoy a cozy moment in time.Submitted to Friday Ark.

Wow! your cats are the happiest felines I've ever seen. I don't mind when young people express themselves with such creative uses of the language as long as they don't use curse words--I do not care for that at all. It's to harsh. But the Chillax is just fine and if they say it with a twinkle in their eye then I like it even better.

I'd say these guys don't mind living with me at all. They used to be my son's cats, but he had to leave them behind when he moved into an apartment that didn't allow them. They have such cute expressions, I find myself taking a lot of pictures.

What gorgeous pictures and what a great way of presenting them - very creative - I really enjoyed my visit!

Thank you! Come back any time :)

Hi Lisa, what wonderful relaxers those two cats are. I have never seen cats or anything sleep in those positions, too too funny. They must be good company, sort of like heated pillows. Are they ever awake, other that to eat and evacuate? :-)

Surprisingly, they spend a decent amount of time wrestling and chasing each other around the house. My bathroom rug slides easily, and Gizmo loves to peel out on it as he runs after Bentley. The other night, Gizmo was racing around by himself, eyes as big as saucers. I was afraid he'd chewed on a houseplant and was "tripping" or something, but he just had a burst of energy and had to zoom around for a bit. (The actually poisonous plants are in a room they can't get to.)

Thanks for coming by my blog---I would sure say they don't mind living with you and they do have cute expression. If I wasn't allergic to them, I'd get a couple too. I meant to tell you earlier that I love your Autumn yard.

What delight! It's remarkable how cats will find the funniest places to bed down for a nap. A folded up piece of cardboard? Mmmm! A compact window sill? Yeah, baby--meow!

Alas, my cats are less into the chillax then yours at he current time. Right now, it's all about chasing little gnats and demanding play-time (first thing in the morning).

I've gotta get 'em fattened up so they'll learn to dig the chillax.

Anna-Thank you..I really enjoy the change of seasons around here. As for the cats-I AM allergic as well, but mostly just sneezing (and they're worth it). I have been undergoing some immunotherapy at the allergist for a couple years already, or it could be worse. (If I could just train them to use that darn vaccum! I suppose the lack of opposable thumbs holds them back :)

Chuck-I had to smile when you expressed a desire to fatten up the girls so they'll chillax-that was the main reason I agreed to take these two in the first place, they were already mellowed. I used to think I wanted a Sphinx cat, until I learned that they're basically "birds with fur" in their vertical pursuits and energy level! These two are still quite demanding though, meowing and scritching at my door at "Oh dark-thirty" to be fed, and insisting I be chaparroned in the bathroom...sheesh! :)

:)) i am still chuckling...what amazingly relaxed cats. they should do commercials for some drug company selling muscle relaxers! they could make a load of money and become major celebrities. these photos are a adorable!

I see your cats also like to chillax on your "fur"niture. LOL. That's a precious lesson they are teaching us. Maybe I should learn to chillax too, sometimes I think I'm going to drive myslef crazy with all of the things I've got going on!

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Huh, wha? Oh sorry, I was in the zone chillaxing.

Crumbs Lisa, you have the chillaxedest cats I've ever seen. Your Bentley could chillax for a place in the Olympic team.

Fun post and great pics!

Now there's a pair of cats who know the true meaning of chillaxing!

Deb-Heh, I feel your pain...I have a lint roller in my glovebox that I use daily!

Sky-LOL! They could absolutely be "chill pill" spokescats!

Cinj-Yea, I feel jealous of their lifestyles, especially when I'm off to work! :)

Yolanda-Thank you! I say their SHOULD be a "chillax-a-thon" in the Olympics...think I'll fire off an email and see what happens! ;-)

OMG, I'm still giggling... Bentley is a Stitch! My little brother was a little bit like that when he was a kid, btw. One of my favorite photos of him is him in his orange soccer jersey, shin guards still on, feet touching the floor, his back resting on the seat of a rocking chair, arms overhead, mouth completely open... fast asleep. :)

And Coco sleeps with both paws straight up in the air sometimes, too. This will now hereby become known as her own "Praise Jesus" pose!!! LOL!

"Praise Jesus" Kitty......

Jams-RIGHT?! Their pictures should be next to the definition in the dictionary!

Kim-Funny, I have some pictures of my son like that now that you mention it. Guess pets and owners ARE alike! :) Coco and Bentley have me wondering: what if the "Praise Jesus" pose is for a "divine belly-rub"?

Antvee- :)

Yes Yes Yes Chillax. I needed that word for all the people who questioned my activity level when I retired. Most retirees like to prove how busy they are. I usually replied that I used my wife's cat as a role model following the sun around the house snoozing as I went.

lisa said...

Heh...maybe if you put it on your license plate people would understand your retirement goal :) Funny, I used to describe my son as a housecat when he stayed with me. Now I wonder if they taught him or visa versa!

Meemsnyc-Thank you!

Karen-I'd love to see the look on his face when you do! :)

Your cat photos are hilarious, Lisa!
Maybe someday the 'Chillax' will be a highly sought after breed of cat for aging baby boomers like me who are also built for comfort, not for speed.

Great idea, Annie! Too bad these boys are both fixed, cuz' they could certainly help produce mellow progeny!
