Bloom Day (waaay late), and I had a bloom! My hard-core winter weather has turned me into an "Ebay plant-monger", and this is a recent newcomer. Fenestraria rhopalophylla (or "Baby Toes") arrived in bud, and promptly opened up a flower! Sure, it's just a plain white, but pretty all the same, and it's great to have a flower this time of year! More cactus from Ebay too, this is Mammillaria spinosissema , purchased from Desert- to -Tropics Nursery, packed very well and looking pretty...
....looks even better potted up!

And here we have Mammillaria nivosa, with fruits from a recent bloom. This beauty came from the same Ebay source, and they have enough cool plants to keep me broke if I don't control myself! Potted up in a bonsai pot with this little ceramic dude, and I'm hoping to get a tarantula shed from my son to utilize as decoration in another cactus dish. The sheds are cool, they look like a whole spider without the fangs and attitude, and will be very appropriate paired with cacti, IMO.
More new succulents from Ebay, this is Echeveria imbricata 'Blue Rose', from Xerophyte-World, the same place I got the aforementioned Baby Toes. They have a dangerously large and diverse selection as well ;-)...
....like this Echeveria Hybrid 'Perle von Nurnberg'....
....and Echeveria Shaviana 'Truffles'. Looks a tad rough, but it has come around nicely since this picture was taken.
Also from the same source are these Lithops, or "Living Stones" as they are referred to. I have always wanted to grow these, and I hope to keep them happy enough to bloom.

So here they all are, in the new sunny window spot I made for them ....

....and so concludes another Bloom Day...late but not forgotten! :)
UPDATE:Apparently tarantula sheds do, in fact, include their fangs...yikes! Can you imagine shedding your teeth (as well as lungs and trachea) on a regular basis?! No wonder mature spiders often die from incomplete shedding...houdini could get stuck in that process!)

Ooooh... beautiful! And that shed will be a fun addition.

I must keep repeating: "I won't go to Ebay, I won't go to Ebay..." (I could seriously get into problems with echeverias myself.)

Beautiful things. I love echeverias myself. E shaviana is one of my favorites (recently got one). Fenestraria rhopalophylla flower is beautiful!

Kim-Oh yea, as an Ebay junkie I can attest to the evil, lucrative powers of the online plant auction. Run, don't walk...but get away somehow! Save yourself, it's too late for me! ;-)

Gintoino-I'll bet there are lots of different echeveria cultivars, and I feel a new collection coming on! :)

Gardenjoy4me-Thank you! I'm enjoying them a lot so far, and they should be easy to care for, so long as I resist the temptation to over-water them. Luckily, I have been much too busy lately to screw up. :)

Love your collection. I'm with Blackswamp_Girl... "must stay away from eBay". I'm having a hard enough time with staying away from the seed companies.

Thanks for joining us for bloom day. What's a few days wait when you have a bloom?

ebay bad. We have a great cactus and succlent grower here in North Texas. He has some um, shall we say, interesting looking stone plants.

Wow! What a nice home you gave them. They'll love you for it.
I swear, if you keep this up, pretty soon I'll be asking you for growing advice. :)
I want a spider shed too. *whines*

ps --Step away from the watering can... :)

Good stuff! Because you've got good taste!

Carol-Thank you! I shouldn't be surprised that Ebay would add a whole new set of challenges to my self-control when it comes to plant purchases...I think the auction/competition element is particularly enticing.

Aunt debbie/kurt's mom-Heh...I presume you mean "interesting" in a phallic sort of way...heh...awesome. ;-)

Vonne-Oh, I appreciate the vote of confidence, but give me time (I can kill just about anything ;-) Just gotta remember: water = bad! Did you ask your nephew about the spider shed? I bet he'll give you one...be careful of the hairs, though-they will make you itch. In fact, I'd read that the "itching powder" you can buy from joke/majic/prank stores has been made from tarantula hair. (Not 100%sure, though.)

Chuck-Why thank you! I definately know what I like! :)

Well, I left him an email, but apparently, he's too busy for auntie v. He's in a band and doing his thang. I'll nail him down eventually. :)
Thanks for the warning about the hairs. Seems like I heard that somewhere before.
Btw, got my camera back today, so I'll send you a pic of my new orchid soon.

They are all gorgeous and I'm totally jealous. I can't decide which is the coolest - the Baby Toes or the Lithops!

Vonne-Cool! I'm looking forward to some pics!

Karen-Thank you! I like them both, and since they have similar cultural requirements, I think you need a cute little dish with both of them in it! :)

Gosh darn it! You can grow Lithops! I've tried several times after careful reading of it's culture but failed everytime. Great flower on the baby toes.

Wow what wonderful cactus's and succulents. I love the mammillaria nivosa and the mammillaria spinosissema. I used to buy my mother the little cactus's from lowes and home depot all the time for her birthday. I have yet to get myself a cactus. I do have a ghost plant or whatever it is called but it is suffering. The baby toes has a funny texture to it it makes me feel squeamish inside. Good luck with your new plants. I too am addicted to ebay for purchasing my seeds and plants.

Ki-Now I'm worried about my lithops, since I'm a long-time cactus rotter...guess I'd better be extra careful!

Vanillalotus-You know, for as "easy" as cactus are supposed to be, I've struggled a lot over the years. I'm hoping that by acquiring so many recently, I might be "out-numbered" and remember not to over water them.

I love your cute cacti, especially those baby toes and living stones. And the advantage of those is no spines.

Thank you! My new feline guests are sure to appreciate the lack of spines, since they love to "study" all my plants regularly. I think the cacti need the spines to protect themselves, though!
