New Mushroom Project...my friends at http://www.fieldforest.net/ hooked me up again! I was impatient waiting for my outdoor project to start fruiting, so I bought this "Tabletop Oyster Farm" to get my yummy mushroom fix sooner. Opened it up Saturday, followed the setup instructions...here we go...

I don't know how I have contained myself, but I have yet to go to fieldforest.net... even though your mushroom project looks like such fun!

We grew some shiitake and oyster mushrooms from Fungi Perfecti several years back. The shiitake was great but not abundant. The oyster mushrooms turned out sort of rubbery. We may have let it grow too long. But I've had oyster mushrooms purchased in stores and they seem to have the same rubbery texture. Let us know how yours turns out. It was very exciting to see the mushrooms growing tho. This would make a great kids project. We thought it was so much fun, we gave it as Christmas gifts to several people. The reaction we got ran the gamut from amusement to astonishment, curiosity, delight. At least it was a very unique gift.

I must admit, this has been great fun! Just when I was sad to see the outdoor season end, I found a way to feed my gardening jones indoors! I'm actually shocked to see this go so well, cuz' I've tried shiitake logs indoors that did okay, but not like THIS!
