"Desdomona" blooming....strikes me as a tad odd that a plant looking nothing like a daisy has a daisy-looking bloom-but I'm sure not gonna look a "gift-bloomer" in the mouth! I'm just glad it's so happy...cuz' I am, too! Love this holiday weekend so far...beautiful weather, made lotsa progress on my big project...it's all good!

So pretty! I just got ligularia 'Othello' and I'm not sure whether I'll leave them flower at all--I've seen noted at some sites that people just cut the flowers off a la hostas because they don't like them. They're supposed to have interesting seedheads, though, and like you said, who am I to look a "gift-bloomer" in the mouth?! :)

Btw, what is the tall thing growing out of the side of the pot where 'Desdemona' is blooming?

Glad you like it! Othello is very similar to Desdomona, and personally, I really like the bloom! As for hostas, the seeds can actually germinate and create new cultivars...I have some that my sister gave me, and while I do not consider myself a hosta breeder by any stretch, I named tham "Cathy's Baby" after her-FUN! As for the tall thing...it's "Spotted Touch-me-not", or Jewel Weed. I finally got it to reproduce for me, it's a prolific, re-seeding annual which like moisture. Hummingbirds LOVE it, and therefore I love it. Plus, if you snap off a branch and crush/rub it on an itch (esp. from poison ivy) it gives relief! Nothing wrong with that!

How cool re: the jewel weed! I could use that on some of the crazy big mosquito bites we've been enduring this summer. Ugh.

I wish I could like the ligularia bloom... I'm going to give it a shot. The thing is, they remind me of black-eyed susans and I have to confess that I hate black-eyed susans. Hate may not be a strong enough term... utterly despise might be better! I think it has something to do with growing up in the 70s amid harvest gold, brown, and avocado green everything... ugh. Anyway, I think that 'Othello' may lose his blooms just because of my hatred of Susans--poor guy! lol.

I can totally relate to your disgust with 70's colors...my mom still has an avocado green sink and toilet in one of her bathrooms! And I grew up with yellow, green and brown SHAG carpet in my bedroom! No shrink could ever help me get over that ;)
