Inauguration Fever

Although I didn't get to watch the actual inauguration, my co-worker pointed out a really cool site where you can make artsy images like the picture of President Obama: www.obamaicon.me , and here are some of the ones I made. First my son and his girlfriend...
....daisies I wish I had outdoors right now...
...my son's newest cat...

...my son's other cat, reacting when they brought the newcomer home...
...my cats (that's Gizmo on the bottom, putting Bentley in a headlock)...
...more flowers I'd like to see ASAP...
...fun stuff!

My Indiana home....well, first we have to pass this place to get there. I sure don't mind though, I like Chicago just fine!Anyhow, when we get there, the first thing I notice is how humongous the trees at my mom's are! (Exactly how long have I been gone?!) Matt's inspecting his old swingset...looks like something's amiss...or this is an attempt to create a "Rambo-style" jungle scene.......uh, yea. To take a swing on that, you'll need a cup! These are persimmon trees suckering like there's no tomorrow......and her iris looks happy too. This is looking toward the back of the property. I used to love this time of night, when the sky is so light but the land is dark. It looks really cool from a two-seater airplane! (Thanks D.L.! ;-)These ostrich ferns seem to be trying to prop the old shed up. Mom has clay soil which holds a lot of water...fern paradise!Storm front whizzing past to reek havoc elsewhere...thanks!This rose standard is huge! (Like 7 feet tall.)

Nice roses, too!
Her "snowball bush" is blooming like crazy. I always loved this thing as a kid, you can play with the bloom clusters like softballs, snowballs, whatever.

Like I said, fern heaven......mom kept saying that she needs to "clean this up", but I think it looks terrific! All the hostas and sweet woodruff and bishop's weed, blending together in drifts...
...after all, this 'Sum and Subtance' can hold its' own... ...I mean, what's not to like?
I thought these were tall garden phlox, though it's too early for them to be blooming, even in Indiana. Mom says they're some kind of wildflower...
...but they look like tall garden phlox, and smell like them too!

This peony is huge, beautiful, and sweet-smelling.....
....but this woodchuck hole-not!
The virginia bluebells are unmistakeable though...very nice!
Exhausting drive, but well worth it!

My baby is 25!! This happened a few days ago but I'm still proud mama... ..and these are some of my favorite pics....can you tell they're not digital? (And my scanner sucks?)

Ah well...awesome milestone, just the same! :)

My recent diversions...from blogging (as well as normal life), are courtesy of my son and these two felines, Gizmo (in black), and Bentley (in white). See my new "living/bedroom"? Gizmo likes the view of the bird feeders...

...both of them! I'm trying to accomodate these two with their own "perches" in hopes of discouraging climbing in areas I don't want them...I know...cat people are all laughing at my foolish self-delusions.....anyway....
...Bentley enjoys lounging on the couch more than watching birds...
....but the change in living situation has them both wondering (and conspiring)...
...."Who, us?"
When my boy found a new place, Bentley helps with the packing...
...but no cats are allowed, so the furniture assembly is done without any feline assistence.
Still a work in progress....
.....better now!Fairly cozy for a "bachelor pad"......even with the tarantula posters. However, one of the real tarantulas is not happy about the situation!
This lovely lass is a Brazillian White Knee Tarantula, and she doesn't appreciate all this activity! This is only the second time my son has seen her defensive posture, she usually just sends up a cloud of "urticating hairs" from her abdomen and runs away. Please do click the image to enlarge...see the two fuzzy bumps in the front? Behind those are her fangs, and according to Wikipedia ..."due to their large size the puncture damage can be extensive." ...um....time to put the lid back on! Ah well, now that the boy is settled, and I can get back to life as usual...plus two felines, that is!

The end of an era...my son and his girlfriend split up, so my favorite sassy puppy, Lady, will not appear on these pages in the future. This really bums me out.......but I don't think my son's two cats are gonna miss the girlfriend's dog at all! Here's Gizmo trying to defend himself with no front claws (he did hold his own quite well)... ....and here's Bentley, enjoying the newfound peace and quiet.
Now Gizmo can relax too, except when he's fulfilling his role as chief sandal-chewer, plant destroyer, and spider killer. He seems to sense that my son is bummed out about the dog though, because he's making an effort to comfort him... ....Gizmo has taken up the art of "fetch"!

He'll go on like that until his mouth is hanging open! Good kitty! Who needs a dog, anyway?

Who loves ya, baby? This is my son, and his biggest fan, Lady. First, it's just the adoring gaze... .....moving in to show the love....

.....oh yea, right on the lips! (And kinda in the mouth...you know how it is).... ....."Ack!" Maybe not the desired response....
.....but a dog's gotta do what a dog's gotta do!

This post was submitted to Friday Ark...I never participated before, but it looked like fun! Check it out!
